EN 15490 is a British standard developed to govern paraffinic diesel fuels. These fuels are new-generation synthetically produced fuels that offer a cleaner and renewable alternative to fossil fuels. HVO Fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and Shell GTL fuels are examples of paraffinic diesel fuels.

Both the HVO fuel and Shell GTL meet the specifications of EN 15940 and are allowed to be used as the drop-in fuel for the vehicles and machinery with OEM approval, including all the major vehicles such as Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, etc. These fuels are a viable replacement for EN 590 ULSD fuels.

You can learn more about these standards in our fuel specification guide.
